Hansel’s Biography

Hansel Thurnheer

Hansel started to play the five row button accordion when he was eight years old.  Born in Switzerland but spending lots of time in Ireland he moved to the green Isle twenty years ago.  He quickly made himself a name with his unconventional style of playing a mix between traditional, rock and blues.  When Noel Redding – bass player with Jimi Hendrix, heard him playing he invited him into the studio to play on his album (Thank You, Good Night and Good Luck).  Hansel soon formed his own band playing an explosive mix of trad and rock.  Rubicon is now playing festivals and pub gigs all over the country, Germany, Austria and the UK. Hansel then found a computer freak who fitted Midi electronics into his accordion.  He now uses a Alesis QSR synthesizer which he controls from his accordion.  He also writes the bass and drum sequences which the band uses for live gigs as well as recordings.
